Want to give an urban edge to your casual-chic ensemble? I have two simple words for you. “Go Denim” and you will definitely attract attention and of course, envy from your peers. Get a great cover-up for those breezy sunset walks on the street by letting loose some of those buttons, throwing on skinny black jeans, a belted cinched waist and shoes to parade your attitude.
1. Jeans and Shirts:
The denim shirts may have had its beginnings as a work shirt, but today’s new spins on the American classic making it perfectly suitable for all kinds of play emerging into the perfect staple that gets better with age. On casual weekends go for blue/black/white denim jeans, especially those with designer labels on them and a denim shirt to get the casual yet never sloppy and always classic-chic look or couple it a great pair of leggings, roll up the sleeves, undo a few buttons, wear it loose or cinch the waist with a skinny belt and finish the look off with a tall leather boot for a trendier touch.
Quick tips for denim lovers:
Striking the casual note not enough for you? For cocktails/date night go for denim on denim and pair a shirt with skinny jeans, a sparkly belt and red or metallic heels.
Mixing and matching your denim can be risky business that can be tackled with a few tips for head-to-toe denims.
a. Make sure the denim washes are different shades of blue. If you choose to wear a light blue denim shirt, opt for a darker shade in your denim skirt, shorts or jeans and vice versa.
b. Avoid looking like you are clad in your boyfriend’s shirt looking bulky and heavy. Opt for denim shirts that are in chambray or lightweight denim giving you the feminine fit.
c. Do know that darker colored shades can be just as slimming as regular blue jeans.
a. Don’t wear acid wash denim. It’s outdated and no, it does not look cool even if your friends say so.
b. Do not even try to wear colored denim pieces together. You might come across some fashion model flaunting it with confidence but trust me wearing it in public places will only scream out for uninvited attention.
c. Don’t go too tight if you buy light-colored jeans. Light colors will make you look heavier and show every bulge.
2. Add ons:
Looking for a great way to dress up your denim? Add a hat to polish up your denim. But not just any hat will do. Make sure you pick the right hat to elevate the whole look to casual perfection.
If you’ve fallen in love with a hat with brim, make sure that it is scaled just right for your face and body frame. Pick a neutral color that flatters your skin tone and the slightly dipped brim to bring focus to your face.
a. Don’t wear outdated Retro Hats:
There’s a very good reason some things go out of style: they were lame to begin with. In the example of the 80s- little black hat, it’s a style that only Boy George could pull off.
b. Don’t Wear a Baseball Cap:
Reach for a baseball cap (or even worse, trucker hat) as a last resort. It usually downgrades everything a notch or two plays up the sloppiness of the rest of the look.
c. Don’t Try Exaggerated Shapes:
If you’re new to hat wearing, please know that a well-scaled hat is your most flattering option. Many women break this rule quite successfully by wearing outsized weirdly shaped hats in the hope of standing out in the crowd. Well they surely do but in the most unflattering way that you would be more than keen to avoid.
