Tee for Transformation:
My ex-roommate (Raisa) has the following traits- 1. She is highly creative 2. She is in love with her pair of scissors and 3. She has more number of t-shirts than you can ever imagine. So naturally she would just crop the sleeves if they were long or cut out her own fancy neckline if she did not like the original one. So we decided to work on those lines and find something interesting for our readers.
Making a top out of a t-shirt:
You can cut out your t-shirt and turn it into a halter, tank or t-back top. You can also find more
complicated ones like the baby doll top but we will discuss the less time consuming ones in this post.
Before you begin, put on your old tee and ask your friend to use a chalk and draw the outline of the new shape that you are trying to give it.
1. Halter top:
a) Crop the sleeves
b) Cut out the back just below the sleeves
c) Shape up the neckline
d) Work the scissors down from the back of the neck line and your halter ribbons are ready
e) You can sew the edges to give your brand new DIY top a more finished look
a) Cut out a deep wide round neck
b) Crop the sleeves and arch them inwards using your scissors
c) Turn the tee shirt and hold the back of the two edges of your cropped sleeves using spare cloth cut out from the sleeves
d) Stitch it up so that it stays in place
e) After you are done, you can be a little more creative by adding details like a small hip pocket, buttons, etc.
3. Tube top:
a) Cut the portion above the sleeves.
b) Take a thread and needle to create fine ruffles at the edge.
c) You can even go up to eight rows for a better fit.
d) You can even attach an elastic strip at the top or use a string fastener.
e) Make a bow or a flower with the spare cloth and attach it to create a cute tube top.
4. Hand bag
a) Cut out triangles from two different t-shirts
b) Sew the edges as shown
c) Tie up the top
d) Add beads and buttons to add a more personal touch to your handbag
5. Open finger hand gloves
a) cut out the t-shirt sleeves if you want to go sleeveless
b) cut out a hole at one side for your thumb
c) sew it up to give it a right fit
d) trust me, theses open fingers hang gloves can serve as a really a cool way to layer your long sleeved t-shirts during winters
6. Painting t-shirts
I have participated and won several t-shirt painting contests with my friends (Raisa and Radhika) held in the college. And since all of us are lazy, we came up with this amazing concept of spray painting.
Here is what we did for the first t-shirt we designed
a) Cut out the outline of a blade on a chart paper (you can pick any shape you want)
b) Fix it on the front of a white t-shirt using a cello tape.
c) Insert a newspaper in the t-shirt so protect the back from staining.
d) Take a toothbrush and spray paint it with red fabric paint (you can even use different colors together)
e) Let it dry completely.
f) Remove the chart paper and your blood red t-shirt with a blade on it is ready.
